Give your agency collaborator access to Shopify

In Shopify, open Settings › Users › Security and copy the 4-digit collaborator request code. Send it to your agency. When their request arrives, review the permissions and click Accept request. Collaborators don't use up your plan's staff accounts.

Steps

Send your code

  1. In Shopify admin, open Settings › Users (or Users & permissions).
  2. Click Security.
  3. Click the 4-digit collaborator request code to copy it and send it to your agency.

Accept the request

  1. When the agency’s request arrives, open Settings › Users and click the Requests filter.
  2. Open the request and check the partner details.
  3. Under Roles, review the permissions. Remove anything the agency doesn’t need.
  4. Click Accept request.

Our notes

  • Which permissions to give: only the areas the work needs. Tracking and landing pages usually need themes and pages, apps and marketing. Leave out orders, customers and payouts unless your agency explains why it needs them.
  • Check unexpected requests. Shopify shows when the partner signed up and where the request came from. If anything looks off, ask the agency before accepting.
  • Access expires after 90 days without a login. You can reactivate it from the user’s page.
  • What happens next: we check how your store sends purchases to Google and Meta before we change any tracking.

FAQ

Questions

Why a collaborator account and not a staff account?

Collaborators don't count toward your plan's staff limit, and Basic and Starter plans include no extra staff accounts. Shopify also shows the partner's details on the request, so you can check who's asking.

Can a collaborator take over my store?

No. Shopify doesn't let you give a collaborator the Administrator role or transfer store ownership to one.
