Meta
Create your Meta business portfolio
A business portfolio (formerly Business Manager) is where your Facebook Page, Instagram account, ad account and Pixel live. Create it yourself at business.facebook.com, under your business's name, before you give an agency access. Then you share assets with the agency instead of the agency holding them.
Steps
-
Go to business.facebook.com and log in.
-
Click the business portfolio switcher at the top left, under the Meta Business Suite logo.
-
Click Create a business portfolio at the bottom of the list.

-
Enter your business name as customers know it. Special characters aren’t allowed.
-
Enter your name and business email if Meta asks, then click Create.
-
Confirm the email Meta sends you.
Once it exists, add your Facebook Page, Instagram account and ad account to it from Settings. Your portfolio’s details and ID are under Settings › Business info.

Our notes
- Why you should own it: Meta lets only the business that owns an asset share it with another business. If your portfolio owns the Page and ad account, you decide who gets access and you can remove anyone.
- Add a second person with full control, such as a co-founder or manager. Meta recommends two, so a lost login doesn’t lock you out.
- Find your portfolio ID in Settings › Business info. You won’t need it for this setup, but your agency may ask for it later.
- Common mistake: running ads from an ad account inside a freelancer’s portfolio. If you part ways, the ad account, its history and its Pixel data stay with them.
- What happens next: you add us as a partner and share the assets we need.

FAQ
Questions
I already have a Page and ad account. Do I still need this?
Yes, if they aren't in a business portfolio yet. Add your existing Page and ad account to your new portfolio, so access runs through the business and not through one person's profile.
Can my agency create the portfolio for me?
They can, but then the agency holds it. An asset belongs to exactly one business portfolio, so whoever owns the portfolio controls the Page and ad account. Create it yourself.
